The school was founded in April, 1994, by late
S. Parkash Singh Majithia in the memory of S.
Desa Singh Majithia who was a great general during
the reign of Sher-e-Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
S. Desa Singh occupied a foremost place among
the Sikh Sardars. He was the Governor of Amritsar.
He was a man of distinction. Many honours and
titles were conferred on him. S. Parkash Singh
Majithia wanted the residents of Majitha to have
access to quality education on modern lines and
with this sole objective in view, this school
was established. The school is situated near the
Bus Stand. There are 13 well-furnished class rooms
including a Principal's room, staff room and an
office. It is a co-educational institution with
English as the medium of instruction. The school
is following the CBSE pattern of education. The
school has a generator set so that regular power
supply is ensured in the school.
The school has recently been placed under the
Management of Chief Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar. The
school aims at imbibing lasting values like honesty,
sincerity and truthfulness among the students.
The main stress is laid on morality, promotion
of cultural and spiritual values. There are 515
students on roll in the school. The number of
teaching and non-teaching staff including the
Principal is 20. All the teachers arc well qualified
and devoted. Due to lack of accommodation, in-door
games are encouraged. Everyday, after the morning
assembly, P.T. is performed by students from Nursery
to IV Std. with the help of a band. Co-curricular
activities are an essential part of the curriculum.
The students participate in debates, dramas, folk
songs, gidda, poetry recitation, fancy dress and
painting competitions. The girl students also
do needle work and make pictures on thermocol
sheets. The school Management has purchased land
measuring 19 kanals and 1 marla in the name of
S. Desa Singh Majithia Public School, Majitha
under the Chief Khalsa Diwan on Dadupura road,
near Patwarkhana, on the outskirts of Majitha.
A complete complex on the purchased land housing
all the facilities like class rooms, office complex,
laboratories, library, computer room, activity
room etc. which are mandatory for seeking affiliation
with Punjab School Education Board, Mohali will
be coming up in the near future.
The Chief Khalsa Diwan felt the necessity of opening
a prestigious school to meet the aspirations of
the NRIs and other parents who are keen to get
their wards educated in foreign universities after
completion of their schooling in India. So, to
meet this need, a prestigious school, under the
aegis of the Chief Khalsa Diwan, has been opened.
The foundation of the school was jointly laid
by S. Parkash Singh Badal, the Chief Minister
of Punjab, and S. Gurcharan Singh Tohra, the then
President of SGPC on October 17, 1997. The school
