Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Nasarke in
Gurdaspur District is situated in a remote rural
setting on Fatehgarh Churian-Batala road. The
school was initially started jointly by the village
Panchayats of Nasarke and Sarchur with the active
support of the residents of these villages. S.
Bhupinder Singh Mann, an Ex.MP, donated Rs. One
Lakh for the construction of the school building.
Later on, the school was handed over to the Chief
Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar, for imparting quality
education on modern lines. The medium of instruction
is English, but, equal stress is laid on the teaching
of Punjabi language, Sikh history and culture.
The school, still in its infancy, has four newly
constructed rooms on one acre of land donated
by the village Panchayat. The rooms are spacious
and airy. There are about 250 students on its
rolls from Nursery to IX Std. There are 13 qualified
and dedicated members of the teaching staff. Sports
are given due importance in the school curriculum.
Adequate sports facilities are being provided
to the students for participation in different
games. The school encourages the students to participate
in co-curricular activities to bring out their
hidden potential. Various cultural activities
like drama, songs, dances and Gurbani competitions
are organized in the school from time to time.
On the request of the local population, the matter
regarding up-grading the school upto X Std. is
under active consideration of the Management.
However, getting well qualified and competent
staff from urban areas is a serious problem.
The school would be affiliated to the Punjab School
Education Board, Mohali, for which requisite facilities
are being created in the school. Mahant Santokh
Dass Ji of Aliwal has offered financial assistance
to the poor and intelligent students. He has also
promised to raise funds for the development of
the school. The Management of the school is planning
to start computer classes in the school in the
near future. Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School,
Attari is a co-educational institution offering
education from prc-Nursery to VIII Std. It is
being run in a Gurdwara complex donated by S.
Harinderpal Singh Sidhu and a family of Attari
for establishing an English medium Public School
for the upliftment of the educationally backward
area of this Indo-Pak border belt. With this objective
in view, the school was started on January 28,1997
by the Chief Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar. The school
is situated near the famous railway station, Attari,
known as the 'Gateway of India' at a distance
of 26 km. from Amritsar and 1 km short of Wagha
Border. At present, the school campus consists
of 14 airy, well-ventilated and spacious rooms,
the Principal's office and the Staff room. There
is a Gurdwara in the centre of the building which
is dedicated to the Sikh community.
The school has a spacious play ground for different
games and sports. Facilities for indoor games
like chess, ludo, carrom etc. are provided to
the students. Keeping in view that the teacher
is a torch-bearer for the students, the school
has appointed a team of 20 qualified and trained
teachers who are imparting education by adopting
the latest methodology and F innovative techniques.
The total strength of students in the school is
430 and the number of students in each class/section
is kept within a manageable limit, so that each
student receives adequate and individual attention.
The school provides a conducive environment for
the harmonious development of the child's personality.
The school is to be affiliated to the Punjab School
Education Board, Mohali and the requisite minimum
facilities are being created for the same. It
is generally said, "A sound mind lives in a sound
body". So, outdoor activities i.e. games and sports
are an integral part of education, in order to
make a child physically and mentally sound. This
also involves team spirit, sportsmanship, co-operation
and discipline. Our students actively participate
in inter-school competitions. Facilities for the
development of art and craft to channelise the
creative ability are provided lo the students.
Mere accumulation of knowledge is not enough in
life. Proper and well-organized co-curricular
activities are just as important as the formal
educational instructions for the overall development
of the students.
The school provides various facilities for regular
co-curricular activities. Inter-school competitions
such as science quiz and science exhibition poetic
recitation and painting competitions etc. are
an integral part of the curriculum. Besides imparting
quality education, equal emphasis is laid on the
teaching of Sikh religion, history and culture
and teaching of Punjabi language. The school celebrates
the Gurpurbs of Sikh gurus, especially Guru Gobind
Singh Ji. During the Nagar Kirtan the students
and staff salute the Samadhi of great General
of Khalsa Raj S. Sham Singh Attari. The school
not only offers good education, but also undertakes
social service for the welfare of the people of
this area such as organizing medical camps and
mass marriages of poor girls. The school also
arranges "Chhabeels" of cold water for the pilgrims
coming from and going to Pakistan. The school
Management is trying to purchase 2 acres of land
adjacent to the present site of the school to
provide a new building on modern lines having
spacious class rooms, a library, well equipped
laboratories, a high-tech computer room and an
audio-visual room. The school Management is keen
to make it a model Public School.
