This institution was started
in 1986 in its present premises. The land was
acquired under the stewardship of Lt. S.M.S. Chawla,
President and S. Dalip Singh Sandhu, Manager,
Philanthropic donations helped to start construction
with no Govt, aid or financial support from Chief
Khalsa Diwan, Amritsar. The building was constructed
in phases and the library, A. V Room and Computer
Lab was constructed with the financial help given
by a single gentleman and his family. Similarly,
24 rooms out of the 40 rooms in the school have
been donated.
The institution caters to the
weaker section of society and quality education
is imparted to first generation recipients of
education. The institution charges minimum fees
as compared to other public schools but provides
good facilities both educational and infra structure
wise. Keeping with the aims and objectives of
the Chief Khalsa Diwan, the institution has been
set up to cater to the needs, of society and not
as a profit making body. The institution stands
today as a 4 storeyed building with Senior Secondary
Status affiliated to the CBSE.
Development of the Institution.
Academics :
The imparting of education, keeping
in mind the school status, economic status, parental
education has been of prime importance. The quality
of academics makes or mars an institution. Facilities
follow. To give an insight into the quality of
academic education that is imparted I touch upon
the following points.
Teachers
Every teacher of this institution
is well qualified and is appointed through a qualifying
written test regular interview with the Selection
Committee of the School and a subject expert after
the post has been advertised in a leading daily
of Chandigarh and the Employment Exchange notified.
No teacher of
this school is untrained or appointed on the
basis of recommendations.
Every teacher
maintains a teachers weekly diary and Activity
register which is submitted to the Principal
every Monday.
• Every teacher is required
to complete his/her checking work within four
days of completion of a topic.
• Every teacher is required
to give a talk in the Morning Assembly on Mondays
on topics like 'Environment' 'Banking' 'Water
Conservation' etc.
Teachers are not
only accountable for result but also for Class
upkeep, students behaviour, checking their Tiffin's
to see to their daily intake of vegetables.
In service workshops
for teachers are conducted for ten days in the
school w. e. f 19 May to 01 June every year.
Workshops are conducted by leading publishing
houses and teachers attend these regularly
Weak students
are coached by the teachers during recess.
Since 1991 the
school has 100% successful results in the CBSE
Board Exams of Class X.
Project Work
Every subject teachers encourages
project work corresponding to their lessons. The
senior students participate in the Science Fair
held every year by the Education Dept.
To enable the Students to understand
better yearly trips are organized for the juniors
to Gurudwaras, Mandirs, Church, Temple. The senior
students visit the Traffic Park and Science City,
Kapurthala every year.
Primary Classes
The Pre-Primary Classes spend
an hour every morning in the Nursery Corner which
a ball pool, toy train, slide and swings. Nursery
Rhymes are recited there by them.The Nursery students
are provided with a snack/ fruit daily. The Drill
Method/Chalk and Talk Method are used. Children
are encouraged to ask questions, draw even on
topics related to English.
The work is closely monitored
by the Principal.
Infrastructure
There are 40 airy rooms with
suitable furniture black boards etc.
Library
The library is very well equipped.
It has 3927 books. The institution subscribes
to 14 magzines and journals. The librarian and
subject in charge encourage the reading habit
and use of dictionary. Every child carries a notebook
to the library to note down words, he does not
understand.
Audio Visual Room
An audio visual room with a TV
and CD player and projector is used once a week
by every class.

Computer Laboratory
There are 17 computers in the
lab. School is having the broadband Internet connection
for the students .
Mathematics Laboratory
A Mathematics Laboratory for
junior school is set up as per CBSE specifications.
It was one of the first to set up in Chandigarh
and inaugurated by the Mayor of Chandigarh, Mrs.
Ami Chatrath on 11 March 2005.
Gymnasium
To encourage health and fitness
awareness among the students an Eight Station
Gymnasium is set up in the school in 2005. The
students come early in the morning and avail this
facility under the guidance of the
DPE.
CCTV - a closed circuit TV having
26 cameras with a TV in the Principal's office
helps monitor the work of the teachers.
Fire Hydrant System -The school
has a fire hydrant system for the operation of
which 3 staff members have been trained.
Strength of School -The strength
has risen from 723 students in 2002 to 896 students
in 2008.
Sports
The School has a Volley Ball,
Ball Badminton, Badminton and Basket Ball Courts.
On students participate in various CBSE / U.T
inter school activities 17 students were selected
for National Camps in different sports activities.
Annual Activities
Excursions
Every class is taken for excursions
every year in October. These are educational cum
pleasure trips on a no profit basis.
Annual function
An annual function in the form
of Annual Cultural Function/ Sports Function/
Fete is organized as a regular feature.
The Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru
Harkrishan Dev Ji is celebrated with great enthusiasm
every year. At least 1500 people partake of langar.
The money spent is solely through donations received
for this Gurpurb
Music/ Divinity
Moral Education is given on priority
to students.A student failing in Divinity is considered
failed. Now Sikh students are required to obtain
30% marks to pass. Moral Science is a compulsory
subject and students are given grades.
Co -curricular Activities
The school has many co-curricular
activities which the students participate in.Festivals
are celebrated in school with great enjoyment.
National Festivals are also given due respect
and are celebrated
Scholarships
The School Management has taken
the responsibility of arranging the fees and lunch
for 20 orphan students through philanthropists.
This amounts to approx. Rs 2,35,000 Lakhs. The
uniforms both winter and summer and shoes for
these 20 orphans students are paid for by Member
in Charge of this school. The books and stationery
are also arranged through donation. 34 students
receive merit cum means scholarships of Rs. 100/-
p.m. The amount is donated by the philanthropists
of the city. Fatherless, needy students are given
half fee concession on tuition fees. The Sri Guru
Harkrishan Educational Society gives four scholarship
@ Rs 100 p.m to needy students.
Students Health
A qualified experienced allopathic
doctor is appointed and carries out medical check
up of every students every quarter. She attends
to the school OPD daily for an hour. To sum up,
I would like to say that this institution named
after the Eighth Guru is not an institution to
be condemned and compared . the worthy well qualified
member of the staff are inculcating personal,
neighbourly and community values to the students
in a sincere manner. Co-operative learning, creativity
are encouraged. Parents too are encouraged to
participate in school activities such as 'Talk
on Adolescence', annually arranged by Johnson
& Johnson, Salad Making, Competitions etc
are held for parents too.
This institution is striving
to develop a passion for excellence and for that
any guidance, any new awaited so that it may be

Sri Guru Harkrishan Primary
Public School
The Primary School in Kurali
has shown marked improvement in both the increase
in strength of students as well as infrastructure.
From 23 students in 2002., the strength at present
is 110 students. The school started with a Pre
-Primary school and is now a Primary School. The
strength of teachers in 05. The Management has
recently constructed 06 rooms. The school has
been given requisite furniture, an invertor, an
aquaguard. A water cooler was recently donated
by a firm to the school. The overall supervision
is done by this school.
