These words of William Butler Yeats (Irish Poet) "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." sound as fresh, vibrant, seismic and relevant as they were two centuries ago. These words are embedded deeply in the walls of this school and it is the mission of this institution. It is a matter of great pride and pleasure that Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School has been marching forward in imparting the highest level of education ever since its inception.

Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Basant Avenue was established by Chief Khalsa Diwan in April 1986 and is large enough to offer all the benefits with the bright and spacious rooms , activity centers, bustling classrooms and high tech laboratories. With the blessings of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji, our school is affiliated with I.C.S.E. i.e. Board for Anglo Indian Education. The aim of this board is to serve the nation's children through high quality educational endeavors, empowering them to contribute towards the humane just and pluralistic society , by creating exciting learning opportunities , with a commitment to excellence.

The school has attained the status of one of the most prestigious institution of the city with the strong system of education and it strives for human excellence by blending the Indian culture with the modern times with ou t losin g its traditional essence. Gurudwara Sahib (Source of spiritual enlightenment) :- The presence of Gurudwara Sahib has added grandeur and grace to the school campus. It provides a sacred ambience in the school campus to pay obeisance for enrichment of souls and thus enables the students to grow spiritually.

•  Research Centers (Zone for scientific temper) :- The science wing consists of three fully equipped Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories. These laboratories cater to growing need of the students to research, experiment and to give their subject a practical perceptive. Science Club always actively participates and we are successful in promoting the scientific approach among the students.

•  Computer Zone - (Information Technology for techno tots) :- Information Technology is an integeral part of curriculum and we have high tech computer labs, separately for junior and senior students, where the budding Bill Gates can enhance their confidence level by getting latest information in the field of information and technology with open access to Internet.

•  Art & Craft Room - (A display of creative Mantras) :- A place to enhance their creative mantras by optimum utilization of resources. This room gives our budding artists an opportunity to apply their creativity to produce an atmosphere full of vivid colours. Thus successfully generating the aesthetic and creative skills of the budding future artists and develop the inborn talent to the fullest.

•  School Library - (Reading Zone) :- The nerve centre of school, interactive learning facilitated by fully automated library having collection of 4000 books, current periodicals, encyclopedias, manuscripts, maps and educational CD's. It is an aesthetically rich library having sufficient sitting capacity, caters to the need of the all the children.

•  Hi-tech (Multimedia Zone) :- Hi-tech multimedia hall equipped with all latest hi-tech facilities which have a deep embedded impact to have exuberant growth of the students. It converts learning concepts into more interesting and concrete level. Various new techniques for academic are pursued by newly constructed Audio Visual Room.

A home away from home where we groom the personality of children between 2 to 3 years of age through special techniques. Every child has an inborn talent and we provide a stimulating environment, which would enhance all round development of the. child. We ensure that our blooming buds must learn through exploration and interaction. We invite you to this galaxy of little stars and have a glance at them.

•  Music Room - (Sa Re Ga Ma Pa) :- Music flows like a fresh water stream in the school premises through out the year, we have purpose built music room with superb teaching and practice facilities. There are many opportunities for our budding musicians to perform and participates in competition, school events and assemblies.

•  School Tuck Shop :- The School canteen provides a range of food & beverages at Break 1 & Break 2 and is monitored by the board of Managing Committee. The Canteen is committed to provide a healthy, nutritious and economical food for students with the menu changing regularly in response to students, parents and staffs feedback.

•  Value Education for fostering, caring and sensitive approach :- life is a journey and its takes us down many winning roads. We all face moral delimma at every turn of our life. In order to meet such hard challenges, we need a strong foundation of values. To imbibe the same in our students, special classes are arranged to strengthen the character of our blooming buds.

Curriculum at Middle Level (Classes VI to VHP During mis stage, our blooming buds
become adolescents. It is a time, when
they are trying an individual identity of their own.

This is a complex time of transition as they face immense emotional upheavals. Understanding this, our teachers take the role of facilitators, guides and friends. The motto is make them confident learners, therefore the curriculum is centred on excursions , field trips, personality development programmers, sports activities, debates, quizzers and counseling sessions.

•  Curriculum at Senior Level (Classes IX to X) Our teachers are well organized in their planning for effective management in academic and co- curricular activities. Regular counseling sessions by eminent educationists and counselors with team of experts are held to help them to get acquainted with various education and vocational opportunities for their happy & bright future. The system of extra coaching and recurrent terminal examination is there to make them confident in achieving academic excellence.

•  In a short span of time, the school has made strides and is known for its excellence. The first batch and second batch of ICSE board has shown flying colours by giving fabulous 100% result.

•  It gives us immense pleasure to share the glorious journey of our achievers. The students of class X have brought laurels by showing remarkable performance i.e 100% result in class X -ICSE Examination held in March 2005-2006, 2006-2007 and hoping for the same glorious result this year too.

•  Regular Teacher Training Programmes and workshops are being held regularly to learn to use the tools, designed to help our teachers for better understanding of the development levels of the students.

•  To inculcate and promoting the important habit of reading amongst students, various competitions, debates, declamations, quiz, extempore, story writing competitions are held regularly and students are participating with zeal and enthusiasm.

•  "Past is the key of Present." To attain this, the school heritage club organizes educational trips, quiz, seminars, competitions and cultural activities to promote cultural and heritage awareness among the students.

•  Co-curricnlar activities link with social life :- Besided the main subjects the students are provided with multitude of activities to choose from depending upon their individual interests and aptitude like Dance, Cooking, Jewellery making, Candle making, Calligraphy, Public Speaking, Paper folding, Toy making, Glass painting etc. We are committed not only to provide knowledge but also a well groomed personality to present the same.

•  Tours & Trips (Educational outside the school campus V .-To have a glimpse of multi

dimensional life outside the school campus, picnic outing education tours, religious tours are arranged. The importance of such outdoor activities cannot be underestimated as they inculcate the spirit of adventure and love for the beautiful nature and at the same time ,such activities prepare the students to face the hardships and challenges of life. These types of interaction also give splendid opportunities for the teachers to get to know their children much better.

•  Games and Sports :- Sports arena excellence is the never quenching thirst of our players. The school has made proper arrangements for indoor and outdoor games like Badminton, Basketball, Table-Tennis, Gymnastic, Taekwondo, Gatka and Snooker by appointing special coaches. Our budding sportsmen are participating in various competitions and bringing laurels to the institution.

The house enables the student of different ages to work together for cultural, sports and social activities and is the basis of in house competition. The head boy and head girl along with house prefects and house captains constitute the student council. This system provides the students with training in leadership and self government . The council is actively involved in the day to day working of the school.

•  Curriculum at all levels

•  Curriculum at Elementary Level (Nur. & K.G) A galaxy of little stars with variety of activities. The curriculum is flexible and activity oriented. The activities designed for them are structured inform of story telling, dramatized, counting games, group activities , role play, music, art, sport activities and dance shows. The whole idea is to make the children of this age group, comfortable in their new environment and also to develop social skills required to adjust with peers.

•  Curriculum at Primary Level (Classes I to V) A t this age, children have learnt to make healthy adjustments in the classroom as well as school, so informal teaching and formal teaching is infused together to sharpen creativity, curiosity, competence and problem solving skills special attention is given to every individual to cope up with the class -room teaching. Group activities are centered on quizzes, project work, field excursions assembly presentation and group discussions. For grade 1 & 2 , no for mal assessment is there but from grade 3 onwards, terminal examination system is there.
