Hindu, Sikh and Muslim prayer houses and voluntary
organizations. This is the reason wh the oldest
schools belong to one or the other religious group.
At one of the Educational Conferences held by
the Diwan, it was decided to set up English-medium
Public Schools to cater to the needs and demands
of the public. A resolution was passed to this
effect and in pursuance of this resolution, the
first such school was started at the G.T Road,
Amritsar. To expand and extend the services of
the Diwan and to facilitate the rural areas, these
schools were opened in other parts of the State,
mostly in rural and backward areas. The children
who were deprived of education now get good education
in these schools. Despite the fact that these
schools have no financial aid what-so-ever from
any quarter, yet all modren facilities are provided
to the children. The schools have spacious buildings,
large play-grounds, well-equipped libraries and
laboratories and are provided with modern techniques
of education like audio-visual aids. The staff
is well qualified and experienced and the best
possible guidence is given in curricular and co-curricular
activities. The focus is on the over-all development
of the children and impart a qualitative education
that moulds the young minds and provides a launching
pad to seek a brilliant and bright future.
The Diwan decided to establish a Directorate of
Education to co-ordinate and ensure a smooth functioning
of all these schools. This challenging responsibilty
has been handled in the best possible manner.
